Who we are

B10 was formed by a group of friends and family with a diverse set of backgrounds and skills. We share a passion to do something good for the world whilst at the same time building a successful business.

With our German, English, Swiss, Dutch and South African origins, we hope to bring precision, pragmatism, quality, directness, and a sense of fun to everything that we do.

Between us, we believe we have the management experience, engineering and project management skills, connections to our suppliers and customers, and financial resources to achieve significant growth.

Management Team

Philip Edmonds

Founder

Philip Edmonds – or Phil as he is known by everyone apart from his mother – was born in the UK and moved to Switzerland in 2005. Phil graduated in Mathematics from Oxford University and spent the first six years of his career working for IBM in systems engineering and marketing. He then moved into commodity trading, specialising in steel and raw materials for the steel industry, which he has done since 1989.

Phil has always been an environmentalist, but working for so many years transporting steel around the world has given him a close-up view of the need to change the way we do things – steel and shipping being two of the largest carbon emitters. He firmly believes that Biochar can save the world!

Phil lives with his partner and daughter, whilst his three sons have already fled the nest. When not trading steel or building biochar plants he enjoys travelling, cooking, gadgets, sports (watching and playing), particularly skiing and cycling and of course time with family.

Tobias Munk

Founder

Tobias Munk boasts 30 years of extensive trading experience, primarily in the options markets, including bond options, currency options, and power and natural gas options. Over the past 15 years, he has specialized in market-making options within the environmental carbon markets, such as the EU-ETS.

A firm believer in the principle of putting one’s money where one’s mouth is, Tobias is now dedicating most of his time to the B10 venture, aiming to make a positive impact on our world.

In his spare time, Tobias enjoys keeping up with the imaginative ideas of his 8-year-old daughter. He, along with his wife and daughter, cherishes the privilege of traveling the world. For Tobias, making air travel carbon neutral through the B10 venture would be the icing on the cake.

Murrough Davies-Webb

Managing Director

Murrough Davies-Webb qualified as a Chartered Accountant, before spending the past 30 years in various business ventures from travel and conferences to the world of aviation. Growing up on a farm, his parents from an early age, instilled in him a love for the environment and the need to protect our fauna and flora. Together with his brother, he purchased a commercial timber farm where sustainable farming practices are implemented and wildlife reintroduced into the area.

Murrough feels that being part of the B10 team is a wonderful opportunity to positively impact the environment through the controlled and responsible use of forestry waste in creating biochar.

Murrough is married with 3 boys – all very sporty and all having taken on their father’s passion for the game of rugby and especially his beloved “Springboks”. As much spare time as possible is spent with the family where their beach holidays in Mozambique and week-end getaways to their timber farm are firm family favourites.

Sam Edmonds

Head of Engineering

Sam Edmonds is fresh out of university, having completed a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering. During his studies, he has engaged in many projects, including machine design. More recently, he has focussed on operations optimisations and maximizing resources, and making the aviation industry more sustainable.

Sam believes a carbon neutral world is crucial for this and future generations, and is convinced carbon negative industries are the way forward. Through B10, he hopes that future generations can enjoy the world of today.

Sam’s biggest hobbies include travel (favorite country: South Africa), cooking (mainly Asian inspired) and sailing (wind powered).

Markus Munk

Project Manager

Markus is an experienced project manager with an impressive career spanning various industries and roles. With extensive experience in digital transformation, he has successfully led projects for renowned companies such as BP, AOL, Deutsche Telekom, Giesecke + Devrient and Axel Springer. He also has a proven track record as CEO for setting up start-ups in the publishing and SaaS sectors.

Sustainability and environmental awareness have always been important to him. For him it is no longer enough to dedicate himself to the topic in his private life, he also wants to do his part professionally to make the economy sustainable and CO2 neutral. So it was a logical next step to join B10.

Markus is a family man, married, and father of four children. His family provides him with support and motivation to work towards a more sustainable future. His interests include travelling, gardening, and exploring new business models, always striving to find innovative and sustainable solutions.

Brondal

Our Brondal site is where we installed our first plant. It is located 20km from Mbombela (formally Nelspruit) in a small industrial area. On site, as well as our pilot plant, we have our office facilities, laboratory and staff quarters with 10 bedrooms.
